Update KJ The Hague #3: 600 tons of steel assembled

Team KJ is almost 5 months in
It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating the start of construction. But that was already months ago. A lot has happened on the construction site, and we'd like to give you an update.

The diversion of Bezuidenhoutseweg is still in effect
This will remain so until mid-2026. The bicycle parking, under the KJ square, will remain closed until the end of 2024. For more information about public areas and bicycle parking, please visit the municipality's website: www.denhaag.nl/kjplein.

Roughly 600 tons of steel erected
Late last year, the first columns of the Station Tower (the tower on the East side) were installed. And since February, the Park Tower has also been rising. This is the tower on the West side, on the side of Rijnstraat. We've erected impressive steel structures and welded them together on the construction site. For this, the heaviest steel profiles available have been used. Shortly after, this 'feat of craftsmanship' was encased in concrete. The main load-bearing structure on the ground floor is now almost complete. A large part of the 1st floor slab has been realized. And in the valley (the part between the two towers), we've started on the 3rd floor slab.

In the coming months, we'll be working towards the 5th floor
We expect to bring in the last steel truss around the construction holiday. Once this is placed, we'll (structurally) leave behind the most complex phase. A significant milestone!

The total construction time is approximately 3 years
KJ Den Haag is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 / beginning of 2027. Below is the approximate schedule:

  • From mid-2024, the superstructure begins, and by mid-2025, we'll reach the highest point at around 93 meters.
  • In the second half of 2024, facade construction begins. Once the building is 'wind- and waterproof' on enough levels, finishing work can commence.
  • According to the plan, finishing work starts in early 2025.

Our working hours are typically from 07.00 to 16.00 hrs
According to the building permits, we are allowed to work from Monday to Saturday between 07.00 and 19.00 hrs. In practice, this is usually from Monday to Friday from 07.00 to 16.00 hrs. Occasionally, we may need to work outside of the permitted hours. In such cases, we always coordinate with the municipality and inform you in advance.
